Rabe O. Wilkison Post #38

                                             Post News - May 2024

Legion Riders with Bud Boyer, Southwest Area Commander, and Jessica Moore, 2nd Vice Commander for the Department of Florida

Legion Riders for Gold Star Families.  The Post was able to host the visiting Legion Riders on 17-April as they visited Gold Star Families in our area.  They were impressed with our hospitality, especially that hot, cooked breakfast the next morning!

Officer election.  At the Post May meeting, a second candidate emerged for Post Commander, which requires an election. The two candidates are Mike Turner and Tony Neal, and the election will be held on 1 Jun at the Post between 11:00AM and 5:00PM. Members in good standing can vote; there is no absentee voting.  Votes will be counted after 5:00PM, and a special meeting to announce the winner will be convened at 6:00PM. It will be a short meeting just for that purpose. The regular meeting of the Post will be 5-June as usual.

Elected Officers.  Following the third reading of the nominations, the following were unopposed for their current positions and were elected by acclamation:

          1st Vice Commander              Dennis Makola

          2nd Vice Commander             Dave Mulholland

          3rd Vice Commander             Ward Bubeck

          Finance Officer                      Wayne Renner

          Chaplain                                 Bob Ruberto

          Sergeant-at-Arms                  Mark Smith

          Historian                                 John Ramos

Executive Committee            Harvey Charter, Anne Peck & Daniel Pfeifer

The positions of Adjutant, Judge Advocate, and Veteran Services Officer are appointed by the commander following the election.

There is a lot going on at Post 38 and I encourage all members to get involved and play a part in the operations of the post.  A great place to get started is our kitchen, we always can use help; just remember to wear closed toed shoes and a hat.  Recently we started the post yard sales again after several years off. The first one was a great success, and I got my car washed by the kids from PAL.  Just go online to our website http://www.post38-swfl.org and look at the EVENTS page or calendar for anything you are interested in attending or helping with.

By the time the June newsletter is out we will know all the people who are going to set the operation of our Post for the next year.  When the date for the installation of officers is announced, please place it on your calendar.  The people who have volunteered to run the post deserve to see you there when they are sworn in, and it shows the dignitaries who will be present that we care about Post 38.

Good day, everyone; hope all is well. On June 1st we will have our election for a new Post Commander. I received a post card from Jim Ramos, who is running for re-election as National Executive Committee; on his post card it has 3 words in caps/bold: INTEGRTIY, HONESTY and LOYALTY.  Those 3 words are what we are looking for in the next Post Commander. Both candidates have been members of this post for over 5 years. When reviewing those resumes, we must look at what they have done for this Post in the last 5 years.   That would be an indication of what that person will do for this Post. We have Eagle Scout projects that will take place; one is to replace the fence destroyed by Ian.  There is a lot to do and that must be done, but as always, you need a steady hand on the wheel.  I wish both nominees’ good luck.  I would like to thank our members for their continued support and my Officers and staff for the dedication to their jobs.  I wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend, God Bless you and your families.

Wow. I cannot believe it's been almost a year already; awesome job, everyone.  Let's keep the momentum going. Soon it will be time for installation and a new year. We will have new officers and new ideas. I look forward to continuing our ongoing work to serve our veterans and Post. Thank you all for your dedication to the squadron and Post. Our next meeting will be on 06/09/2024. I look forward to seeing you there.

for God and country,

Dave Mulholland
